Support Our IndieGoGo

We're poised to decide the festival ensemble members for the third annual Victoria Spoken Word Festival. This developmental festival has been an amazing experience every year for our visiting emerging poets and our wonderful Victoria audience.

But we need your help to make it a reality again this year. We need to raise $2,000 by Dec 16th to make sure we have the funds to produce this amazing event. So we're running an IndieGoGo campaign.

Last year we raised $1,100 on IndieGoGo - this year the festival is adding new events, such as a special performance of Anthropocalypse by Poet of Honour Johnny McRae, and we need your help.

DONATE NOW
Donors get all kinds of inside stuff, like our limited edition t-shirts and poet trading cards.

SPECIAL CONTEST
Donate now to be entered into a draw to receive a private, personal poetry reading by Poet of Honour Johnny McRae. The next 7 donors will be entered into the draw. That's a 1/7 chance of getting Johnny all to yourself!

Thank you so much for your support, we can't do this without you.

Persona Poetry Workshop Dec 1

Spoken word poets often right from a personal point of view, but there is power in taking on a persona (see Vancouver's Chris Gilpin).

This one-day workshop will focus on how to write from the perspective of someone outside of yourself, how to protray a character and all the fun ways to play with persona on stage.

Where's My Flying Car?! Tour

Missie Peters is taking her brand-new, second solo show, ‘Where’s My Flying Car?!’ on tour across Western Canada this summer.
‘Flying Car’ is a futuristic romp through the eyes of an array of fascinating characters, including a robotic grocery store cashier, a cyborg dancer and an archaeologist digging for computer parts.
The show combines spoken word, comedy and theatre into a compelling critique with “an emotional resonance… that even Spock couldn’t deny” John Threfall – Culture Vulture.
“I am a huge science fiction geek,” says Missie Peters. “So I’ve always been fascinated by the future. In addition to having fun with classic sci-fi tropes, this show explores why our visions of the future hardly ever match up with our reality. Also, I wear a silver onsie.”
Where’s My Flying Car?! Tour Dates
July 26 – Calgary @ Aubrey Saloon
August 5 – Saskatoon @ Lyda’s Pub
August 7 – Edmonton @ Breath in Poetry
August 12 – Nelson @ Nelson Slam
August 24-Sept 2 – Victoria @ Singe Festival
September 4-16 – Vancouver @ Vancouver International Fringe Festival

UnoWorks: Where's My Flying Car?!

I am very excited to be a part of UnoFest again this year - this time at UnoWorks.

I'm doing the first, full, public reading of my brand-new show, "Where's My Flying Car?!" complete with silver jumpsuit, videogame music and oddly endearing robots.

I'd love you to come - and tell me what you think!

I had a lovely cyberchat with John Threlfall of CVV this week about why we should all care about the future - and what my favourite future invention is.

WHERE'S MY FLYING CAR?!
